Job Overview

This posting is for a System Engineer in the PNGS Refurbishment Engineering Department. A System Engineer for our client is accountable for the health, reliability, and performance of assigned plant systems, ensuring safe and efficient operation through proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance support, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.

Job Responsibilities, Duties, and Key Accountabilities

  • System Ownership & Technical Authority – Serve as the primary technical expert and owner for assigned plant systems. Maintain up-to-date knowledge and documentation of system design, operation, and performance.
  • System Monitoring & Performance – Monitor system health using performance indicators, trending, and surveillance data. Analyze system data to detect, diagnose, and resolve issues proactively. Prepare and present regular system health reports.
  • Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution – Investigate abnormal system behaviors, equipment failures, and operational events. Lead root cause analyses and develop effective corrective actions. Support emergency and off-normal event response as required.
  • Maintenance & Reliability Support – Collaborate with maintenance teams to plan, prioritize, and review preventive and corrective maintenance activities. Review, develop, and approve maintenance strategies, procedures, and work packages. Ensure timely completion of maintenance and system restoration to operational status.
  • System Modifications & Upgrades – Identify opportunities for system improvements, upgrades, and modifications. Develop engineering change packages and ensure all modifications meet regulatory, safety, and quality requirements. Support implementation and commissioning of system changes.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Safety – Ensure all work complies with our client’s policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., CNSC). Participate in audits, inspections, and safety reviews. Maintain a strong focus on nuclear safety culture and human performance.
  • Documentation & Reporting – Maintain accurate and comprehensive system documentation, including drawings, procedures, and records. Prepare technical reports, event summaries, and regulatory submissions as required.
  • Continuous Improvement – Identify and implement best practices to enhance system reliability, efficiency, and safety. Participate in lessons learned programs, benchmarking, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Communication – Liaise with operations, maintenance, regulatory, and engineering teams. Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

Skills:

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of engineering principles, plant systems, and equipment relevant to power generation (nuclear, hydroelectric, or thermal).
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex technical problems, interpret data, and develop effective solutions.
  • Problem-Solving: Skilled in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Project Management: Capable of managing multiple priorities, planning tasks, and meeting deadlines.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in technical work and documentation.
  • Teamwork: Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with operations, maintenance, and regulatory staff.
  • Safety Awareness: Commitment to safety culture, regulatory compliance, and best practices in the nuclear industry.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2–5 years of relevant engineering experience in power generation, utilities, or a related industrial environment.
  • Experience with system engineering, design engineering, maintenance, operations, or project engineering is preferred.

Professional designations or licenses:

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario is preferred; however, candidates who are eligible and actively pursuing their P.Eng. designation in the near future are also encouraged to apply.
