Job Overview

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Prepare and/or verify Design Change Packages such as Modifications, Temporary Modifications and Non-Identical Component Replacements
  • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation including technical specifications, data sheets, Instrument Calibration Sheets (ICSs), Electrical Wiring Diagrams (EWDs), Connection Wiring Diagrams (CWDs), cable-block diagrams, Environmental Qualification (EQ) documentation.
  • Review and accept updates to Instrument Uncertainly Calculations (IUCs)
  • Conduct thorough research and analysis of electrical and I&C components, equipment, and materials, evaluating their suitability, performance, and cost-effectiveness for specific applications
  • Address design related field issues; Provide assurance that an engineering activity such as modification perform its intended function without adversely impacting a nuclear facility’s design basis or causing a deterioration of a facility’s design margin;
  • Provide advice and/or direction to Operations/Maintenance/Performance Engineering, review designs and sign Field Initiated Changes
  • Perform field support during troubleshooting, inspections, acceptance and approvals
  • Engage in correspondence with various regulatory bodies including Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC);
  • Maintaining written documented processes and procedures to reflect improved operating methods and additions to all supported systems
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to accept designs and changes
  • Provide Engineering Change Control guidance, provide active support to field issues and Field Initiated Changes, and facilitate a positive outcome with Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC) vendor partners
  • Understand impacts on cost and schedule, and provide support to minimize impacts driving projects
  • Gather input from stakeholder departments and agencies to ensure project requirements are captured and detailed in the project documents
  • Maintain process compliance during project execution.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or applied science, preferably Electrical discipline
  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 8 years-experience in a similar role
  • Design and construction experience, preferably with Nuclear or Power/Utility industries
  • Familiar with common engineering processes and practices, such as Work Management, Engineering Change Control, Action Tracking, and station reporting; familiarity with OPG quality assurance program is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control principles, including sensors, transmitters, control valves, PLC/DCS systems, and SCADA
  • Experience with ETAP and relay protection coordination, load-flow, motor-starting, arc-flash studies will be an asset
  • Project management, leadership and work coordination experience
  • Ideal candidate will be Design Engineer / Design Team Lead qualified or previously qualified within OPG Nuclear or similar Candu Nuclear Power Plant
  • Experience in producing design engineering deliverables including, but not limited to conceptual design, front end engineering, detailed design engineering, calculations, technical specifications, design requirements, is considered an asset
  • Relevant work experience with Nuclear Codes and Standards including, but not limited to CSA N285, ASME, ISA, CSA C22.1, Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), N286, N299 and other standards related to Electrical, I&C, or Mechanical design
  • Depending on technical discipline, knowledge in one or more of the following areas is considered an asset: Environment Qualification (EQ), Seismic Qualification, Software Qualification, Equipment Sizing and Design,  Procurement Engineering, Procurement, Nuclear System Design, Pressure Boundary, Stress Analysis, Cyber Security, Electrical System Analysis and Calculations
  • Experience and ability as a team player to understand and manage the interrelationships of various internal and external groups in order to facilitate objectives and ensure projects satisfy stakeholder requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Have a strong interest in fast-paced, challenging work environment where showing initiative and self-motivation are assets; proven track record on delivering results; Strong in understanding, executing and following governance and procedures with a questioning and analytical attitude/approach under minimum required supervision
  • Knowledge of OPG’s ECC Process (Engineering Change Control) will be an asset
  • Requires understanding of problem-solving processes to evaluate and propose improvements to processes, equipment and systems or to unit safety, reliability and performance;
  • Candidate with a P.Eng will be an asset.
