Salary Range: $95,000 – $114,000

Working Conditions
- Combination of an in-office setting in a design office, shop floor, and occasional customer site environment.
- A mix of both sedentary desk work and occasional hands-on work setting within the production environment
- Potential requirement for overtime hours on evenings and weekends at peak business hours to ensure business continuance.
- Occasional travel is required (which may include overnight).
Position Summary
The Project Technical Specialist is responsible for providing technical support and guidance on assigned projects that require engineering involvement. In this role, they manage and resolve technical matters for both internal and external stakeholders, working closely with Project Management as the primary technical point of contact. Key responsibilities include design support, preparation of technical documentation, technical oversight of subcontractors, design verification, and manufacturing support. To perform effectively, the Project Technical Specialist applies a solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and draws on experience producing and reviewing the technical deliverables essential to successful project execution.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Development of technical documentation in support of the project(s), including documentation such as:
- Design Documentation (design requirements, FMEA’s, design plans, etc.)
- Procedures and Instructions (operation manuals, test plans, etc.)
- Technical and Vendor Specifications (including SOWs used for subcontracted engineering work)
- Review designs/drawings to ensure adherence to requirements
- Support the Project Manager (as required) for all quality, risk and technical scope related to planning, executing, monitoring, and closing activities
- Registration of pressure boundary components/systems
- Support review of procurement plans, and purchase requisitions (REQs)
- Provide technical input to support the preparation of requisitions for subcontracted engineering services, and products
- Occasionally act as the technical Lead for customer interface events, as coordinated by the Project Manager and/or Supervisor, Project Engineering
- Provide technical support for vendor/supplier inquiries
- Present technical information to customers or colleagues (ex. Design Reviews)
- Providing update status reports and follow up progress checks, as well as attending meetings for assigned projects
- Responsible for design/strategy of any testing as required for design verification or development testing, in accordance with the design inputs and the requirements of the client’s Quality Assurance program
- Provide support for Manufacturing and assist in the resolution of manufacturing challenges and problems.
- Provide support for Operations (assembly/fabrication/installation/commissioning, both at the client’s site and at customer facilities) – including technical coordination of assembly tasks requiring special instructions developed by engineering
- Provide input to and support in the management of the ‘Rolling Action Items Log’
- Responsible for the compilation of Lessons Learned documentation on an on-going basis
- Provide support to the Quality Control team with the management of any unforeseen issues requiring documented change (e.g., NCR’s, Corrective Actions, Concession applications)
- Provide support to Health & Safety for any safety related project initiatives or needs.
- Provide input to the Project Manager for project control, such as:
- Estimate to complete (schedule/labour hours/material and consumables costing)
- Identification of potential project changes – risks and opportunities for scope/schedule and budget change
- Provide technical support for preparation of any required COR.
- Support proposal activities such as quotes and COR’s as assigned by the Engineering Manager/Supervisors
- Assume additional duties and responsibilities as requested by Management.
Limitations
- Where an employee is assigned from the Project Engineering organization to a Project, and that project requires specific skills, experience, or a professional designation outside of the capacity of the assigned Project Engineer, the Engineering Manager shall determine when and how to support the project with alternate resources. Alternate resources may include: the Project Engineering Supervisor, an alternative Project Engineer, Engineering Specialists, or outside consultants.

The key performance indicators for this position will be communicated and tracked as part of the client’s performance management system.
Skills and Qualifications Requirements
Education:
- Post-secondary education in industrial or mechanical engineering or a related field
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of project engineering experience where production challenges are continuously unique rather than repetitive in nature.
- 1-2 years of relevant industry experience
Skills, Attributes and Competencies:
- Excellent technical knowledge in all aspects of manufacturing, assembly, purchasing, quality assurance, testing, and project coordination
- Strong problem-solving skills to evaluate and enhance production processes and systems and to identify and solve operations, process, and quality issues.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively issue sketches and instructions to members of the project team.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with analytical and problem-solving skills
