Job Overview
The FinOps Product Owner leads the vision, strategy, and execution of financial operations (FinOps) initiatives centered around Microsoft Azure. This role connects engineering, finance, and business teams to optimize Azure cloud spending, improve financial transparency, and ensure accountability. The FinOps Product Owner defines product requirements, prioritizes features, and partners with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities will include:
- Backlog Management: Own and manage the FinOps product backlog in Azure DevOps, defining and prioritizing features and user stories based on business value and technical feasibility.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, finance, procurement, and business teams to understand requirements and drive Azure cost optimization initiatives.
- Roadmap Planning: Develop and maintain a product roadmap for FinOps initiatives aligned with organizational goals and the Azure cloud strategy.
- Data & ETL Oversight: Oversee and drive the ETL processes to aggregate, clean, and transform Azure cost and usage data for analysis and reporting.
- Reporting & Dashboards: Oversee and drive the design and delivery of actionable dashboards and reports, providing clear insights into Azure cloud spend, usage, and optimization opportunities.
- Process Improvement: Develop and implement processes for Azure cost allocation, budgeting, forecasting, chargebacks, and financial governance.
- FinOps Advocacy: Champion FinOps best practices, driving a culture of financial accountability and cloud cost awareness across the organization.
- Vendor Engagement: Liaise with Microsoft and third-party vendors to leverage cost management tools, discounts, and programs.
- Compliance & Governance: Ensure adherence to financial policies, regulatory requirements, and internal controls related to Azure cloud expenditures.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Finance, Business, or a related field. (Master’s degree or relevant certifications such as FinOps Certified Practitioner or Microsoft Azure certifications are a plus.)
Experience:
- 3+ years in product management, cloud financial management, cloud operations, or a related field, with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure.
Skills:
- Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps for backlog and agile project management.
- Strong understanding of Microsoft Azure services, billing, and cost management.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to translate complex technical and financial concepts into actionable business requirements.
- Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills.
